HYPERCABLE International is very pleased to announce that it recently stepped foot in a new country situated at the geographical heart of the African continent: UGANDA . This country referred to as the “Pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill is one of the most rapidly developing countries in Africa. It is also one of the freest broadcasting environments of the continent. Most television stations are using analog broadcasting while pay television platform is still virgin. Moreover the estimate total amount of TV sets used in the country is around one million… In this context, the local company “JRNet” has decided to go for digital and to use the Hypercable DVB-MC/S technology from HYPERCABLE International.

The ambitious broadcasting program has first been focused on the thriving capital of Kampala, situated on hills on the northern edge of Lake Victoria. The Hypercable System was successfully installed in April 2004 and presents a new digital TV service to the Ugandan population. It has a total capacity of 300 up to 600 TV channels and is currently capable of broadcasting 20 digital MPEG2 TV channels to approx. 20% of the population in Kampala City. The Head End is located in Wampewo, while the main TX site is on top of the hill of Kololo.

A very enthusiastic team of engineers from the “JRNet” took part in a complete on-site training conducted by HYPERCABLE International, granting them a good knowledge of the system.

JRNet is already bursting with new ideas of possible developments including the extension of the coverage thanks to GapFiller Repeaters, the possibility to add a new channel that would broadcast selected movies and the implementation of high speed internet.

It is also important for us to point out that CONAX has been selected to provide the Conditional Access System ( www.conax.com ).
